ERA approves Rs 385 cr for development of Jammu, Srinagar cities
Jammu, Dec 12 (UNI) Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) has approved Rs 385 crore for improving drinking water, sewage and drainage systems in the capital cities -- Jammu and Srinagar -- of the state by 2009, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Irrigation, Mohammad Dilawar Mir today said.
As per plan, 385 crore package would be expended under Phase-I of Asian Development Bank (ADB) funding which includes spending of Rs 120 crore on the earmarked eight schemes aimed at improvement of various schemes in Srinagar, while Rs 265 crore would be used for execution of eight water supply improvement projects in Jammu city, he said.
Revamping of all existing water treatment plants in Srinagar city would be done which would provide additional 20 million gallons of water per day.
In the Jammu city, the Rs 265 crore have been earmarked for execution of eight packages aimed at improving water supply system, which includes provision of 57 tube wells and replacement of worn out machinery.
The Sitli water supply scheme too would be renovated besides construction of intake structures at filtration plant Boria under the programme, the meeting was apprised.
