Guwahati, Dec 12 (UNI) Disabled agitators were arrested for the second consecutive day today as they resorted to road blockade to press for their demands.

Activists of the All Assam Pratibandhi Jutia Sangram Parishad (AAPJSP) staged a road blockade near the Government Deaf and Dumb School in Kahilipara area of the city, demanding reservation of jobs and other demands.

Police lathicharged the agitators and arrested them.

The same agitators were also arrested yesterday when they carried out a similar road blockade programme near the state secretariat on the first day of its Winter Session yesterday.

The AAPJSP comprised four associations of the disabled, the Assam Association of Deaf, the Blind Students' Association, the Blind Youth Council and the BTAD Bikalanga Unnayan Parishad.

The agitators demanded that appointments be made for the 662 posts, as identified by the state Social Welfare department, interview for which was held in May 2005 and all backlog posts for disabled people since 1981 be cleared.

The other demands included creation of additional posts for the disabled in the newly formed BTAD areas.
