CPI(ML) demands assurance from PM on JIPMER issue
Puducherry, Dec 12 (UNI) Puducherry unit of the Communist party of India (Marxist-Leninist) today demanded an assurance from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC President Sonia Gandhi that the Centrally administered JIPMER hospital would not be converted into an autonomous institution.
In a statement here today CPI(ML) State Secretary S Balasubramanian said such an assurance was a must, since the policy decision of the UPA government at the Centre was to convert JIPMER into an autonomous institution.
He urged the administration to adopt a special resolution in the winter session of the territorial assembly, which would begin on Dec 15, urging Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi to ensure that status-quo be maintained in the JIPMER issue.
Mr Balasubramanian said the party would fully support the general strike on Dec 14 and would strive to make it a success in the Union Territory. The party would also organise picketing at different places in Puducherry and Karaikal regions, he added.
