Constituency delimitation in TN to be over by March '07: CEC

Chennai, Dec 12 (UNI) The delimitation of the Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies would be completed before March next year, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalasamy said here today .

Asked about apprehensions of several political parties in the State that the previous AIADMK government had constituted a separate delimitation committee and had prepared a report in their favour and that the same was submitted to the Election Commission and whether the Commission was going to change such reports, the CEC, who spoke to newspersons at an airport said, ''The question itself is wrong.'' He said ''the EC is not for any government nor for any political party,'' he pointed out.

''The Commission has its own norms and rules for delimitation. As per this, the delimitation will be completed and nobody's recommendations will be accepted in this regard,'' he added.

To a question, he said the Commission was very keen on the preparation of voters list with the photographs as it would help to check bogus voting.
