Cong rejects CM's appeal to discuss Singur issue
Kolkata, Dec 12: Rejecting Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's appeal to sit for discussion, the West Bengal Congress yesterday said the government should stop acquiring farm land at Singur immediately.
Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharyya told newsmen here that they were not ready for discussion as long as the government would not stop acquisition of agricultural land.
He allegd that the government was forcibly acquiring farm land at Singur with the help of police and demanded that the Chief Minister immediately reveal the exact quantity of acquired land to clear the confusion.
" However, we are again appealing to Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee to withdraw her fast, " he said and condemned the recent attack on journalists at Sheoraphuli.
The Congress would organise a series of law violation programmes in protest against the agricultural land acquisition.
A massive rally would also be held on January 4 to protest the government's proposed move to acquire land at Nandigram of East Midnapore for nuclear plant.
