CBI enquiry not ruled out in Papiya murder case

Patna, Dec 12 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today reiterated in state Legislative Council that the state government was not averse to handing over the Papiya Ghosh murder case to the CBI. .

Replying to a special debate over the murder of Prof Ghosh in the Upper House, Mr Kumar made it clear that the state government had allowed the state police some time carry out the investigation.

A special investigation team, comprising two Deputy Police Superintendents and six Inspectors, had been constituted to unravel the mystery of the gruesome twin murders of Prof Ghosh and her maid which would help bring the culprits to the book.

'' Police are investigating the matter from every possible angle and IG (Patna range) is personally supervising the case, '' he added.

He said efforts were being made for polygraphy test for those arrested in connection with the case. '' I hope the arrested suspects would be interrogated on lie detection machines in a day or two, '' he assured.

Mr Kumar said special care was being taken to strictly preserve all evidence of the case which would help speedy prosecution of the criminals.

'' This is time to be calm and patient and give police sufficient time to crack the case, '' he suggested.

Earlier, Mr Basudeo Prasad (CPM), Mr Ghulam Gaus (RJD), Ms Kiran Ghai (BJP) and Dr Mahachandra Prasad (Congress) participated in the speicial debate on the issue.

Papiya Ghosh, a noted historian and professor of Patna Womens' college, was killed at her residence in Patna recently.
