BMC gets modern equipment to maintain quality of roads

Mumbai, Dec 12 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) materials testing laboratory has acquired state-of-the-art mordern equipment to maintain quality of the city's roads.

BMC official sources here today said the testing laboratory has acquired equipment like Ductility Machine, Flash and Fire point Apparatus, Standard Tar Viscometer, Seybolt Furol Viscometer, Nuclear Density Gauge and Water Bath. These equipment will test the asphalt (hot) mixes and other raw materials.

The laboratory is upgraded on the lines of the Standing Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) recommendations to tackle the wear and tear problems of asphalt roads and in construction of new roads.

It will help in random testing of raw materials specifications used in construction of roads. It will not only ensure use of stronger and durable materials, but also be quick in providing test results. The new machines will replace manual portions of material testing and hence reducing testing response time, the sources added.
