Kolkata, Dec 12: West Bengal Electronic Development Corporation will provide 10,000 square feet space for British Telecom Tech, which will offer seamless connectivity to BPOs in Kolkata.

Speaking to sources, State IT Secretary Siddarth said here today,''We have identified space for the company.'' Last week BT India Head of Security Practice Paul M Bamford announced that BT Tech would link Kolkata with its global IP (Internet protocol) network that straddles across 130 countries round the globe. The company would offer full suite of global managed network services (voice, data and video) at competitive tariffs.

Currently, BT Tech's global IP network links Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. BT tech has planned to connect Kolkata with its IP network through its long-term strategic pact wth Sunil Mittal's Bharti Airtel.

Under the agreement, Bharti Airtel offers BT co-location infrastructure along with Level-I maintenance, which include 24-hour network connectivity monitoring, Mr Bamford had said recently.

BT Tech's connectivity would enable BPO companies in the city and eastern region to avail the "managed" services, Mr Siddharth said.

This project comes at a stage when the BPOs and other IT services companies had been often complaining about unreliable and overpriced internet connectivity which hinders their operations.
