Badal case: CM for quick trial, jt probe into foreign assets

Jalandhar, Dec 12 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today said the prosecution will pray before the trial court on December 23 to expedite framing of charges against former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and family in the disproportionate income case.

The state government had also sought intervention from the Finance Ministry for setting up joint investigation team for assessing the Badal family's assets abroad, he said while interacting with reporters near Adampur.

Capt Singh, who was leading his Jalandhar-bound ''Vikas Yatra'' cavalcade from Hoshiarpur, said that since the Supreme Court had vacated the stay in the case with instructions to complete the hearing in six months, the government would like the prosecution to ensure that the case was expedited and charges framed at the earliest.

The Chief Minister said that proper investigation would be held in the foreign-based assets of the former chief minister's family and the government would easily prove charges of amassing assets of around 3,500 crores by Mr Badal and his family.

Mr Singh also reiterated that his government had no role in former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu's trial and recent conviction in a road rage case.
