Autorickshaw Operators Assn to take part in Dec 14 gen strike

Puducherry, Dec 12 (UNI) Autorickshaw operators in the Union Territory will take part in the All India general strike on December 14.

At a press conference here today, the CITU-affiliated Autorickshaw Operators Association general secretary G Sreenivasan said a decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of all autorickshaw workers joint action committee here yesterday.

The autorickshaw workers would organise a road roko on that day near the Kamaraj statue here, he said.

Mr Sreenivasan also demanded introduction of ESI and pension schemes to the autorickshaw workers, conversion of welfare association of unorganised sector labourers into a welfare board and stringent action against transport department officials indulging in preparation of fake RC books.

He said sincere officials be posted in the transport department in view of scarcity of officers being presently experienced and for clearing pending works in the department.
