AP HC rejects Monica's bail plea

Hyderabad, Dec 12 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh High Court today rejected the bail application moved by Monica Bedi, girlfriend of Abu Salem, who was convicted in a fake passport case, pending adjudication of the appeal filed by her against conviction in another case of similar charge.

Justice T Goplakrishna rejected the bail application on the ground that the petitioner was brought to India after a long-drawn legal battle with Portugal.

The judge further held that even if she was granted bail, she still required to be in prison in connection with another case in Bhopal.

The Judge oberseved that the petitioner had raised several constitutional questions on the issue of her trial and conviction by a CBI court in the city. Those questions can be affectively answered only at the time of final hearing of the appeal.

Ms Monica and three others have been convicted in fake pass port case by Special Court for CBI cases on September 29, 2006.
