Ammonia gas leak creates panic

Hoshiarpur, Dec 12 (UNI) Panic gripped village Bassi Kale Khan near Hariana town in the district this evening, when ammonia gas suddenly started leaking from a nearby chemical factory.

Inhabitants of the village rushed out from their houses. On receiving information, Deputy Commissioner D K Tiwari and SSP R N Dhoke alongwith heavy police force rushed to the spot.

Mr Dhoke said that fire tenders reached the spot and started spraying water to minimise the effect of ammonia gas.

The SSP said that the chilly weather also helped in minimising the effect and controlling the situation.

He said that no loss of life has been reported as yet and the cause of leakage is yet to be ascertained.
