ACA condoles former state captain's death
Vijayawada, Dec 12 (UNI) The President and members of Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) today condoled the death of former state Captain B R Patel in Bangalore.
ACA General Secretary N Venkata Rao said Mr Patel played for Andhra Pradesh from 1957 to 1969 and captained the team in 10 matches during 1967-69.
ACA recollected the role played by him as a player, captain and administrator.
Patel later served as Chairman of the Ranji trophy selection committee for a term. He was one of the founders of The Krishna District Cricket Association, formed in 1972.
Under his captaincy the Andhra Ranji team played its first Ranji trophy match here and paved the way for Vijayawada to become a regular Ranji trophy Centre in Andhra Pradesh, after Guntur and Visakhapatnam.
Mr Rao said he lost his mentor, guru and guide in all aspects of the game.
