Puducherry, Dec 11 (UNI) Cutting across party lines, the six legislators from Karaikal region of this Union Territory have joined hands to boycott the winter session of the territorial assembly beginning here on December 15 for a common cause.

Leader of the opposition A M H Nazeem(DMK) in a statement here today charged that the Karaikal region continued to be neglected. No action to rectify this was taken, despite discussions with the Lt Governor, Chief Minister and with the high level teams and the youth, who were suffering a lot since, they did not get due representations in employment opportunities, he added.

Mr Nazeem alleged that to cite a few, cases Karaikal received one post, while selecting 25 Thasildars, four when 30 VAOs were appointed, 21 while 400 home guards were selected and five when 111 police constables were selected.

Hence, the six legislators had decided to boycott the winter session of the assembly to condemn the attitude of the Government towards the Karaikal region.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting here yesterday.

The meeting also resolved not to participate in any Government function until and unless the Government creates a seperate reservation policy for Karaikal in employment, he said.

The legislators, would fight for a common cause by setting aside their political differences, he added.

Mr Nazeem said they would also call on the Lt Governor and the Chief Minister to hold discussions.

All the six legislators ie DMK two, AIADMK one, PMC one, MDMK one and Independent one took part in the meeting, he added.
