Muslims proportion in government services low
New Delhi, Dec 11: The Government today admitted in the Rajya Sabha that share of Muslims, in Government service and especially in the Judiciary is way below their share in the population, as per data compiled by the Justice Sachar Committee, examing their status.
Minority Affairs Minister A R Antulay said, in a written reply, that the sum of Muslim employees holding government jobs in selected State Governments -- West Bengal, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Asom, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh -- was 44,52,851 which includes 8,76,291 employees from the last state.
In reply to another question, Mr Antulay also admitted that there were encroachments on many wakf properties in the country, saying that reports have also been received about wakf properties being in the possession of Central and State Government organisations.
The Minister made it clear that there was no proposal to give a one time grant for fencing of the wakf properties in the country to avoid further encroachment.
