New Delhi, Dec 11: The Congress today described the Indo-US civil nuclear deal as "historic" and said the Opposition need not have apprhensions on this count.

''Whatever apprehensions the Opposition have raised are going to be cleared when Prime Minister Manomohan Singh speaks on the subject in Parliament on December 18,'' Congress Spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi said briefing media persons here.

The Prime Minister had already replied at length to the apprehensions expressed by the Opposition, he said, and claimed that the deal was going to meet our future nuclear energy needs.

''We are on the verge of creating history on the Indo-US nuclear deal,'' Mr Chaturvedi said, adding all the problems raised by India were going to be addressed in the deal.

Pointing out that the nuclear deal had been passed in the US Senate and House of Representatives with a thumping majority, he recalled that US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had recently stated that the agreement would be absolutely taking into its consideration India's points of view.

Stating that the Congress and the Government were not running away from discussion on the matter in the House, he said the Opposition had every right to express its apprehensions. However, on December 18 all their apprehensions were going to be cleared when the Prime Minister might reply to a full fledged discussion on the subject.
