One killed, 24 wounded in Kashmir accident

Srinagar, Dec 11 (UNI) One person was killed and 24 others wounded when a passenger bus fell into a deep gorge in the central Kashmir district of Badgam today, police said.

They said the bus (JK02A-4129), on its way from Badgam to Arizal, fell into a deep gorge at Kandoora in Beerwah tehsil after the driver failed to negotiate a sharp turn.

Police said Javed Ahmed, a class XII student, was killed on the spot and 24 others wounded, some of them seriously.

The wounded passengers were hospitalised. Five critically wounded were later referred to the Sri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital here, they added.

Transport Minister Hakim Mohammad Yaseen has expressed shock over the accident. He directed the Deputy Commissioner, Badgam to immediately rush to the spot for supervision of rescue operation and also to ensure better treatment to the wounded.
