NKorea nuclear talks to resume Dec 18: China

Beijing, Dec 11: Six-party talks aimed at dismantling North Korea's nuclear programmes will resume on December 18 after more than a year's suspension, China's Foreign Ministry said today.

The fifth round of talks between the Koreas, the United States, Japan, Russia and host China stalled late last year. North Korea refused to return to negotiations in protest at US financial sanctions aimed at shutting down its alleged counterfeiting and money laundering operations.

''The second stage of the fifth round of the six-party talks will start from December 18 in Beijing after consultations among the parties,'' Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in one-line statement on its Web site.

Pyongyang agreed to return to the table following a wave of international condemnation over its Octpber 9 nuclear test.
