Mulayam plans mahotsava while farmers commit suicide: Cong

Lucknow, Dec 11 (UNI) Congress today charged the ruling Samajwadi Party with ignoring the plight of farmers of Bundelkhand who had been facing hunger deaths for the past three years.

Congress leaders, along with farmers from the region, today staged a demonstration in the heart of the city against ''injustice'' meted out to them.

UP Congress president Salman Khurshid alleged that the state government refused central assistance for the region claiming that no farmer would be allowed to die of hunger. ''The state government claimed it had sufficient funds. Then why are not they using the money to save Bundelkhand,'' he quipped.

''The government is constantly ignoring the farmers' plight...farmers are dying of hunger and commiting suicide due to financial burden. But the CM is busy preparing for Saifai mahotsava at his home town,'' he alleged.

Congress legislature party leader Pramod Tiwari, expressing similar sentiments, claimed that by ignoring the interests of the farming community, the ruling party was commiting a crime.
