Disqualified cops shout pro-ULFA slogans
Guwahati, Dec 11 (UNI) Pro-ULFA slogans rent the air near the state Assembly on its first day of the Winter Session today as constables, whose selection were struck down by the High Court recently, staged a demonstration.
The agitators demanded that their appointments be upheld.
The High Court had last week ruled that selection and subsequent appointment of constables in some of the districts as well as recruitment centres were not in conformity with rules, while it upheld the selection in few other districts.
The agitators shouted slogans in support of the ULFA and its top leaders Paresh Barua and Arabinda Rajkhowa. Pro-ULFA banners were also displayed, which were promptly torn by the police.
Later, Senior Superintendent of Police Nitul Gogoi intervened to pacify the agitators.
