CM announces withdrawal of Government Order

Chennai, Dec 11 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced the withdrawal of Government Order (GO) making every political party pay compensation for damaging public property during agitations.

An official release here said, when the file concerned came before the Chief Minister, he opined that it was not fair to claim compensation from the political parties for the damages done by anti-social elements.

The previous government had ordered the Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK) to pay Rs 38 lakh, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) Rs 52,000, the Hindu Munnani Katchi(HMK) Rs four lakh, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(MDMK) Rs 1,883 and other political parties Rs three lakh as compensation for damaging public property.

Following this, the political parties had challenged the order and the petition filed against the order was pending before the Madras High Court.
