New Delhi, Dec 11: A broad political platform, comprising the Left and other secular parties, came up in the Lok Sabha today to take the BJP to task for its ''unreasonable and shameful'' disruption of Parliament, and an ''attack on the institution of the Speaker for political mileage''.

This is perhaps for the first time that a large number of parties in the Lok Sabha including the TDP, Samajwadi Party and the BSP came on a single platform to criticise the saffron party for what they termed as the ''undermining of the institution of Parliament'' with an eye on assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and other states.

At a joint press conference, the floor leaders of the CPI(M), CPI, SP, TDP, BSP, Lok Janshakti Party and Forward Bloc said it was unfortunate that the BJP and its allies were not allowing serious debate on important issues like the India-US civil nuclear deal, farmers' suicide, unemployment and price rise.

In one voice the leaders said the BJP with an aim to avoid discussion was forcing adjournment in both the House on some or the other pretext simply for communal polarisation for political gains ahead of the assembly polls.

CPI(M) floor leader Basudeb Acharia said ''It was deplorable that the BJP had targetted the institution of the Lok Sabha Speaker...the Speaker is an institution. If it is denigrated, the institution of Parliament is denigrated. ''Today an important discussion had to take place on the 11th Plan Approach paper,'' he added.

CPI Floor Leader in the Lok Sabha Gurudas Dasgupta, while claiming that the leaders of the RJD, PMK and DMK also held the same view as held by them, said it was the most dangerous thing that the BJP was not allowing a structured debate in the House.

The others who addressed the press conference were Mr Yerran Naidu (TDP), Mr Mitrasen Yadav (BSP) and Mr Mohan Singh (Samajwadi Party).
