Assure din will not be misused by government: NDA
New Delhi, Dec 11: Opposition NDA leaders today urged Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee not to allow the government conduct official business in Parliament amid din barring compelling circumstances.
The NDA leaders, met here to resolve 'certain problems' with Mr Chatterjee after the Opposition MPs felt they were not getting a fair deal in Parliament.
The NDA leaders led by Leader of the Opposition L K Advani have held a meeting with the Speaker where the two sides expressed their concerns and the matter looked as if it had been resolved. But with the NDA insisting on an assurance that the government will not be allowed to hurry through official business when the House is not in order, it may take more time to arrive at a resolution.
BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the opposition delegation conveyed the NDA leaders feeling to Mr Chatterjee. ''The Speaker has assured us that he would look into the issue and convey his response to the opposition,'' Mr Malhotra added.
The BJP leaders decided to protest the government's ''blatant attempt to misuse every available forum to further its vote bank politics.'' The latest in the series was the address of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the National Development Council where he said Muslims had a 'first right' over the resources while the PMO has maintained that every section, including Muslims and minorities, have the first right over the country's resources.
The transaction in the House will not be normal if Mr Singh refuses to apologise to the country for his remarks, Mr Malhotra added.
