Tiger devours farmer

Mysore, Dec 9 (UNI) A tiger, which is on the prowl in the forest area of H D Kote taluk in the district, attacked and devoured a farmer at Basapura village, last evening.

Forest officials today said the feline pounced on Puttaiah (50) when he was working in his fields close to the dense forest area. On hearing Puttaiah's cries for help, the villagers rushed to the spot, but it was too late. Seeing a large number of people approaching, the big cat fled the scene.

The Zonal Forest Officer and police visited the spot.

Former Minister M Shivanna visited the spot and assured compensation to the family of Puttaiah. He urged the forest officials to initiate action and catch the man-eater soon.
