STPI identifies Mysore as premier tier-II city

Mysore, Dec 9: Software Technology Park of India (STPI) South India Director B V Naidu today said Mysore has been identified as a premier tier-II city in the country among 40 cities selected for Information Technology development in the coming days.

Speaking to newspersons after the inauguration of Marlabs Global Development and Training Centre here, he said the STPI had made a study across the country and identified 40 tier-II cities for IT development. Twelve multinational companies would be coming to Mysore with an additional employment generation of 3,000 professionals in the coming days, he added.

Mr Naidu said IT exports from Mysore had crossed Rs 700 crore during the year from just Rs 400 crore last year. It might further increase by 60 to 70 per cent within the next three years. Mysore had become the next IT destination after Bangalore and more and more companies intended to set shop in the city as it had huge potential to become an IT hub in the next decade, he added.

He said the US-based Target proposed to set up its centre in the city with an investment of 15 million US Dollars and was expected to open its centre by March 2007. Company officials have visited the city in this connection and its Board had approved the project.

He said the STPI would set up its incubation centre in front of the Infosys campus on the city outskirts in a 15,000 sqft area.
