Statue desecration a conspiracy by communal forces: Veeramani
Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, Dec 9 (UNI) Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) General Secretary K Veeramani today alleged that the damaging of the statue of Periyar E V Ramasamy in Srirangam was a conspiracy by the communal forces to defame and malign the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu.
Talking to newspersons, here after inspecting the newly installed bronze statue of Periyar, Mr Veeramani claimed that the communal forces were attempting to create disorder in the state by damaging the Periyar statue, to defame the DMK Government headed by M Karunanidhi.
But, they would not succeed in the attempt, he added.
He appealed to the DK partymen and others not to take law into their hands on the desecration issue. ''Periyar is common to all, including those who believe in God, and not only for Dravidar Kazhagam'', he said.
Veeramani said the statue would be formally unveiled on December 16 and the day would be observed as anti-superstition day. An anti-superstition conference would also be held, he added.
