St John's spinners weave a web against SA U-17 cricketers

Chandigarh, Dec 9 (UNI) St John's School Under-17 XI defeated South Africa Alberton Cricket Club U-17 XI by 76 runs in the 40-over-a-side match at the St John's High School ground in Sector 26 here today.

Batting first, St John's XI made 175 runs in 38.2 overs. Openers A Ayush (64) and A Ratinder (25) were associated in a 90-run partnership for the opening wicket in 19 overs.

Mathew Lee ( 4 for 23) and Reyneke Wihan (4 for 29) were the most successful bowlers for the South African team. Nicolas Botha and Michael Straker bagged one wicket each for 12 and 16 runs, respectively.

Openers Reyneke Wihan (30) and Justine Houston (29) gave the visitors a good start. However, the South Afrocan Club batsmen were all at sea against spinners. Their wickets fell like nine pins and were dismissed for 99 in 28 overs.

Karan wrecked their innings by taking four wickets for just 9 runs in six overs while Sahib Singh captured three wickets for 23 runs. Bhupinder Singh picked up two wickets for 28 runs.
