Sonia Gandhi's birthday celebrated

Mumbai, Dec 9 (UNI) The 60th birthday of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi is being celebrated here today by activists of the Mumbai Youth Congress and the State Youth Congress in the form of a 'Peace Rally.' Around 500 bikers and pillion riders belonging to the Youth Congress started off their day-long 'Peace Rally'' from Azad Maidan here, after reciting an oath to eliminate terrorism and caste discrimination from the country.

The rally is expected to pass below the J J flyover, enroute touching Byculla Dadar, Sion, Dharavi and will end at Mulund suburb.

Talking to UNI, Mumbai Youth Congress president Sunil Ahere said ''The Gandhi family has a history of fighting terror and being victims of terror. Hence we thought by undertaking a 'Peace Rally', we can pass on the message of peace and Congress's resolve to fight terror and caste discrimination.'' Mr Ahere said that the 7/11 serial blasts followed by the recent Dalit killings have shaken the peaceful fabric of the city and the state.'' All this are the handiwork of saffron groups in connivance with other political parties to destablise the Congress government of the state'', he observed.

''Further, Congress and its leadership had always a history of fighting anti-national forces and communalism. Hence the peace rally is appropriate to spread the message of Sonia Gandhi and peace'' he asserted.

Mumbai Youth Congress Secretary Syed Ayub said The Mumbai Youth Congress under the State Youth Congress have been striving hard to bridge the gap of communities and other social exigencies from a long time.

The Youth Congress has always stood in the forefront as far as service to the society and fighting terror is concerned, he said.
