Sasikiran, Humpy power India to win against Vietnam in Chess
Doha, Dec 9 (UNI) The Indian chess juggernaut continues to roll on in the Asian Games gold, crushing Vietnam 2.5-0.5 in the round four of the mixed team's classical swiss event here today.
GM duo K Sasikiran and Koneru Humpy outwitted their rivals with consummate ease while fellow Grandmaster P Harikrishna had to split points with his opponent.
Grandmaster K Sasikiran gave India the right start by getting the better of GM Dao Thien Hai's defence. Sasikiran thus avenged Harikrishna's defeat at Hai's hands in the eigth round of men's rapid chess.
After her surprise defeat yesterday, GM Koneru Humpy came up with an improved show against Nguyen Thi Thanh An and beat her all ends up.
Humpy had beaten the Vietnamese WGM in the second round of the women's rapid swiss event.
Harikrishna, however, had to be content with a draw against GM Nguyen Anh Dung. The Indian tried every trick in his bag but his opponent kept a tight vigil and never lowered his guard, managing a draw in the process.
In the earlier rounds, India had beaten Mongolia 2.5-.5, blanked Turkmenistan 3-0 and edged out Qatar 2-1.
