Rose Show inaugurated in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 9 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information and Public Relations Mohammed Ali Shabbir inaugurated the two-day annual rose show here today.

The objective of the show is to popularise different varieties of roses among the farmers and the public and showcase its potential use in preparation of bouquet and in manufacturing rose gulkand, rose water, perfumes and dry petals.

The Rose, known as the 'Queen of Flowers', is cultivated in the state in an area of 1,748 hectare, with an estimated yielding of 71.42 lakh flowers annually.

''The important commerical varieties are Dutch Roses (Tea Roses), Floribundas and Miniature Rose. The native variety of Kakinada Rose is being cultivated in East Godavari, Chittoor and Visakhapatnam districts, mainly for garlands'', Commissioner of Horticulture Anil Punetha said.

He said to promote rose cultivation, the department was providing 50 per cent subsidy on Hybrid Tea Roses in East Godavari, Chittor, Medak and Karimnagar districts.

Training programme on bouquet preparation are being conducted to create employment opportunities.

In all, 21 trophies and prizes, under different sections, would be awarded to the best participants in different categories. The best 'mali'(gardner) of the year would also be awarded.
