Police denies FIR against Dayananda on desecration of statue

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 9 (UNI) The Inspector General of Police (Central Zone) M S Jaffar Sait today said there was no case against Swami Dayananda Saraswathi in a case of the desecration of a statue of rationalist leader Periyar E V Ramasamy at Srirangam near here on Thursday.

Talking to UNI here, Mr Sait when pointed out that the Swamiji's name was included in the FIR filed by Srirangam police, said the FIR was only a copy of the complaint lodged by the affected people.

''But there is no case against Dayananda Sarasathi Swamiji in the case,'' he added.

The Srirangam police had registered an FIR against nine people, including Swamiji in connection with the desecration of the statue on thursday.

They were identified as Hindu Makkal Katchi(HMK) State President Arjun Sampath, State Deputy General Secretary of HMK, Raghavan, Coimbatore District Vice President of HMK, Manickam, HMK Youth Wing Secretary of Coimbatore District Rajasthan, - General Secretary of HMK Coimbatore District Senthil Kumar, Sujith Madukkarai Union Secretary of HMK Sujith Madukkarai and Kishnamachary and Murali of Srirangam.
