NHRC seeks report on dalit killing from Nasik Police Commission

New Delhi, Dec 9 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Nasik Police Commissioner, seeking a factual report within two weeks on the murder of a dalit youth, allegedly by a mob.

Taking suo-motu cognizance of a newspaper report, the Commission directed that the copy of the article be sent to the Police Commissioner for the comments.

''If the contents of the news report are true, there is a serious issue of violation of human rights of the citizen,'' it said.

According to the report, Rangnath Shankar Dhale, a 23-year- old resident of hutments at Muktidham in Nasik City, was beaten to death on November 29 by the mob for allegedly pelting stones on passing vehicles on Nasik road.

It said the incident took place during protests against desecration of a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in Kanpur.
