Mercury plummets to season's lowest of 6.5 Degree C

New Delhi, Dec 9 (UNI) Cold winds continued to make Delhiites shiver today as the mercury plummeted to 6.5 Degree Celsius, the lowest temperature of the season.

Biting cold conditions welcomed Delhiites this morning as the minimum temperature dropped sharply to 6.5 Degree C, from ten Degrees C yesterday. It was the lowest temperature of this Winter season and was two degrees below normal.

Adding to the chill in the air were cold North Westerly winds.

The severe chill forced most people in Delhi to remain in their homes or offices.

Weathermen said the biting cold was expected to prevail in the next 24 hours. They have forecast a minimum temperature of 7 Degree C tomorrow.

However, some relief from the chill was expected in the next two days, weathermen said.

''With the approach of a Western disturbance, night temperature are likely to increase by two to three degree C in Northwest India during the next 48 hours,''the weather office said .

The next week could, however, witness a return to the chill with the weather office forecasting a fall in day and night temperature over Northwest India from December 12.

In fact, weathermen forecast a considerable drop in both day and night temperatures from December 12 due to a fresh Western disturbance affecting the Western Himalayan region and the adjoining northern plains.

Weathermen have forecast a partly cloudy sky with prevalence of misty conditions in the morning hours in Delhi during the next 24 hours.
