Madhya Pradesh devises smile code to counter EC's model code

Badwani, Madhya Pradesh, Dec 9 (UNI) A Madhya Pradesh minister has found an 'innovative' way to counter the Election Commission's model code of conduct for elections.

''With a smile on the lips, slightly nod the head in affirmation for announcing a new scheme,'' Madhya Pradesh Jail Minister Antar Singh Arya at a public meeting at Jhirijamali village of this district yesterday.

''With a smile on lips, slightly nod the head. This tactics pays of as the electorate understands the response to their demand,'' Mr Arya said.

Mr Arya himself made the revelation as Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah simply smiled when the former sought sanction of Rs one crore for various development works in Badwani district.

''On many occasions, particularly during elections when the model code was in force, public announcement could not be made. Then 'smile code' works,'' he added.
