Journalist urges people to support small, medium newspapers
Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Dec 9 (UNI) Former Andhra Pradesh Press Academy Chairman Potturi Venkateswara Rao today called upon the people to support small and medium newspapers.
Speaking as a Chief Guest at a function to celebrate eighty years of the Telugu vernacular weekly, Praja Patrika, Mr Rao said newspapers should remain neutral and not remain as slaves of the political parties and its leaders. Biased newspapers would lose the confidence of the readers, he added.
He said media should be accountable to the people without succumbing to the whims and fancies of multinational business lobby. It is the duty of the newspapers to safeguard the public from the danger of vested interests.
'Zamin Rythu' Editor Dolendra Prasad speaking on the journalism values of yesteryear, said despite the hi-tech newspapers in the globalised era, the general newspaper circulation is holding its ground. Newspapers, especially small and medium should bear the interests of the society in mind, he added.
Praja Patrika editor Devi Sudarsan was also present journalists on the occasion. Several journalists atttended the function. A book Chevralu was also released on the occasion.
