Ishapore Rifle Factory leads in ordnance meet
Barrackpore, Dec 9 (UNI) Hosts and reigning champions Rifle Factory, Ishapore, maintained its gold hunt with B P Adhikary finishing a gruelling 20 kilometer walk in 1 hr 58 min 32.4 sec on turf at the Metal&Steel Sports Complex, Ishapore, here on the second day of the 36th All India Ordnance Factories Athletic Meet today.
Adhikary covered the distance much ahead of the meet record holder Haradhan Garai of neighouring Metal& Steel Factory here.
The hosts bagged two golds yesterday and added three more golds to their tally during the day through young Satyajit Nandy and Atanu Das who won the longjump and 400 mtr hurdles this afternoon.
Amongst the women participants, Padma Das of Metal&Steel Factory bagged two golds, winning shot put and in javelin throw.
A Telerande of O F Chanda, who earned a silver in 5000m run, bagged a gold in a spectacular race of at least 16 athletes when he over took at least three athletes 50 meters away and finished the race 0.1 second ahead of Chouhan Rao Kanu of Rifle Factory. Kanu bagged 88 mtr gold on the opening day yesterday.
RFI thus remained atop of the score board accumulating as many 52 points leaving Ordnance Factory, Chanda and two other units of Kanpur far behind with 7 points each at the end of the day.
