High alert in Trichy Airport after intelligence warning
Tiruchirapalli, Dec 9 (UNI) The Tiruchiraplli International Airport was placed under high alert, after intelligence reports warned that terrorists might hijack aircraft to seek release of Mohammed Afzal, who was awarded death sentence in the Parliament attack case.
Airport sources said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel have stepped up security measures.
The passengers were frisked and their luggages thoroughly checked before allowing entry into the airport terminal. The same security drill was adopted during the landing of the aircrafts from other destinations.
Patrolling inside the airport complex was intensified and extra checks carried out.
Round-the-clock vigil was being maintained by the CISF men, the sources added.
