Goa seeks assistance for a civilian airport
New Delhi, Dec 9 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pratapsingh R Rane today sought the help of the Centre for construction of a civilian airport, six-lane express highway, cruise terminal and the development of the Panaji port.
"These are the major initiatives we plan to undertake," he said, while addressing the 52nd meeting of the National Development Council here.
He said since the state did not generate power and dependent fully on the Western and Southern grid, exploring options of thermal, gas and micro-hydel power generation would be a priority area during the Eleventh Plan.
"Also in view of the growing urbanisation and given the very high inflow of tourists, it is imperative to plan for adequate sewerage, sanitation, waste disposal and water supply,'' he said.
Referring to enhanced target being set for states by the Planning Commission, Mr Rane hoped that the central assistance would be linked to the achievement of the target.
