8 held, fake brown sugar seized
Vijayawada, Dec 9 (UNI) Police arrested an eight-member gang selling fake brown sugar in the city.
Addressing a press conference here last evening, City Police Commissioner C V Anand said the main accused B Venkateswarulu and Yerra Das were arrested and based on their confession, the remaining members were rounded up.
The brown sugar packets were sent to Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Chennai for testing.
Mr Anand said during interrogation the main accused said they mixed sugar, salt, urea and chemicals to make the 'brown sugar.' Ten 'brown sugar' packets were recovered from the gang members, he said.
In another case, Mr Anand said the city police arrested three employees working at the University General Hospital for selling human organs after removing them from corpses during post-mortem.
K Sitaramiah, U Ravi Babu and Gunji Raju were caught red-handed yesterday while selling a kidney to a decoy.
On interrogation, the accused persons said that they were in the job for many years selling the organs to medical colleges for live demonstrations to the students.
The price of the organ would range from Rs 1,500 to Rs 10,000, he said and added action would be initiated against the buyers also.
