Police Station attacked, force release of criminal

Muzaffrpur, Dec 8: More than 50 supporters of former 'Mukhiya' of Manika Panchayat attacked the Mushahri Police Station last night and forced the policemen to release his brother who was arrested earlier in the day with illegal firearms in the area, Deputy Superintendent of Police said today.

DSP Rajendra Singh said over 50 supporters of Ram Babu Sahni attacked the police station and forced the policemen to release Bigan Sahni, who was arrested yesterday for creating nuisance and intimidating locals with illegal firearms.

A country-made pistol, three live cartridges and an air gun were recovered from Bigan's possession, he added.

A few policemen were also thrashed during the incident. Raids were on to nab Bigan who had been absconding after his forced release, Mr Singh said.
