UN signs arms management agreement
Kathmandu, Dec 8 (UNI) United Nations today signed tripartite agreement on arms and armies management, which was signed by the Maoists and the Government on November 28.
Mr Ian Martin, personal representative of United Nations' General Secretary Kofi Annan, signed the accord on arms and armies management prepared by Government and Maoist this afternoon at Kathmandu.
The accord was signed by Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula from the government side and Krishna Bahadur Mahara from the Maoist side on November 28, and was handed over to the UN for approval.
Mr Martin had gone to New York during the November 28 agreement and returned on Wednesday after briefing UN Secretary about the situation in Nepal.
The agreement states that in management of Maoists' arms and army, rebel's army can keep 30 weapons for the security of main cantonment camps and 15 weapons for security of sub camps.
