Two airstrips in the state to be developed

Agartala, Dec 08 (UNI) Two airstrips in this North Eastern state of Tripura will be developed along with other 13 others throughout the country during the 11th five year plan.

According to official sources here, the civil aviation ministry had decided to develop the Kailashahar and Kamalpur airstrips in Dhalai and North Districts for which Rs ten crores was estimated to be spent.

Incidentally, there was a proposal from a private airlines--Surya air lines to introduce its service to both the Kailashahar and Kamalpur soon once all preparatory work was completed. Till now works for construction of boundary walls in the two abandoned airports is nearly complete.

The airports were in operation during the eighties but stopped for unknown reason. There was strong demand from the state government as well as various quarters to re-introduce flight services.
