Statehood for Andaman

New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) Hannan Mollaha, the senior member of the CPI(M) in the Lok Sabha, today raised the issue of Statehood for the Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Raising the matter under urgent public importance in the house, Mr Mollaha said it would bring a sense of pride among the people of these far-flung islands and they would feel one among the other States.

He said once that region gained Statehood, it would usher a speedy developmental era there.

He requested the Chair to ask the Centre to carry out the necessary legislation in this regard at the earliest.
