Soz wants latest technology to ensure optimum water efficiency
New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz today said the adoption of latest techniques and technology, both at macro and micro levels, were necessary to ensure optimum use of water.
Addressing the National Seminar on Water Equipment and Management, organised by the CII here today, he said besides improving the efficiency of larger water facilities, adopting measures like drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting and ground water recharging and watershed development was necessary. The contribution of NGOs in this effort required, he said.
The water resources Ministry had undertaken studies and research schemes on efficiency of irrigation systems, water audit in industries and development of water accounting guidelines, he said.
Technical development and research should lead to transfer of technology to the stakeholders and public-private partnership.
Prof Soz said growing population coupled with industrialisation and urbanization has led to an increase in the demand for water.
He reiterated that the government committed to take necessary measures for development of water resources and to ensure efficient management of the same with a view to ensure its equitable distribution for meeting the requirements for various purposes, with top most priority to drinking water supply.
