Shenzen win a match of horrors

Kolkata, Dec 8 (UNI) Senzen FC of China scraped past Mohaneddan Sporting 1-0 in an unimpressive show at the IFA Shield here today.

The all important goal came in the 63rd minute when following a centre from Fang Xiao Dong, Wu lei headed the ball for MA Xiao Lei, who volleyed home.

Wu Lei got another chance to score, but he made a mess of the sitter.

Earlier, Harvinder's pile driver missed the mark by a whisker in the 53rd minute and minutes before completion of the match Sunil Kumar volleyed into the chinese goalie with the entire net for the taking.

This apart, the match never rose to any heights. while the Chinese team looked extremely mediocre in their approach and planning, Subhas Bhowmik's old warhorses did the best they could.

It was good to see the likes of Debjit Ghosh, Noel Wison, Bijen Singh and Raman Vijayan doing the rounds even at this age. But that was not enough as the soccer dished out by either side was pitiable and a sorry sight.

The Chinese team that came with so much of sound and fury looked like any NFL side from the country when at its best. Their junior side that came to play in the AFC Youth cup were far sharper.

However, their next match against a far better Mohun Bagan will be a real test. They have already assured themselves a semi berth with a win here and Bagan will go all out for a win when they meet the Chinese outfit to secure their position.
