Record power generation by NJPC
Shimla, Dec 8 (UNI) The 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation (NJPC) has generated 5,130 million units (MUs) of electricity during this financial year, surpassing all previous records, a company spokesman today claimed.
The company has so far generated 5,130 MUs of power since April one, he said, adding it was the highest during any financial year since its commissioning in October 2003.
Claiming that the power plant was likely to generate over 6,000 MUs of power during this fiscal, the spokesman said it had only generated 5,108 MUs during 2004-05 and 4055 MUs during 2005-06.
Observing that reduced power generation during the winters was an annual phenomenon, he said this was because of freezing of water sources in Satluj River's catchment area.
The flow of water in the river has gone down to 90 cumecs against a peak generation requirement of 405 cumecs, he said, adding that generation being achieved during the period was as per the MoU targets.
Himachal Pradesh and the Centre has 25 to 75 per cent stake in the power plant, which is the country's largest hydel power project in the country.
The spokesman said due to reduced water supply in the river, four machines were being operated in the morning and evening, while two machines have been put on annual maintenance.
Power generation in the two machines, which were closed for annual maintenance on October one, had been restored on November 30, he added.
