Parliamentary panel wants SCs/STs on PSU boards
New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) A Parliamentary Committee has recommended reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on the boards of directors of Public Sector Undertakings(PSUs).
It has asked the government to issue guidelines making it mandatory for PSUs and banks to provide the reservation.
In its 18th report tabled in Parliament, the Standing Committee on the Welfare of SCs and STs said there were large number of SC and ST candidates who possess the necessary qualification and background in industry, commerce, administration and finance to become members of the boards.
The Committee noted with concern that instead of setting clear guidelines on appointment of part-time and functional directors on the boards of PSUs, the Department of Public Enterprises has shifted its responsibility to the Department of Personnel.
It also suggested to the government that if needed, relaxation could be given to the SC and ST candidates in the eligibility criteria for appointment to the board of directors.
