No plan to make voting right mandatory-Govt
New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) The government has no plans to make voting rights mandatory, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
In a written reply, Law and Justice minsiter H R Bhardwaj said the issue had been considered by Dinesh Goswami the Committee on Electoral Reforms, 1990 and also in the meeting of all political parties held in 1998.
The measure was, however, not accepted becuase of practical difficulties involved in its implementation, Mr Bhardwaj added.
Appointment of judges- Minister of State for Law and Justice K Venkatapathy informed the Law Commission had made recommendations regarding appointment of judges in accordance with the population.
The Law Commission, in its 120th Report, had recommended that the strength of 10.5 judges per one million population should be increased to 50 judges per million population.
