MCD engineers gherao Stg Comm to protest misbehaviour with colleague

New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) Agitated over a councillor's misbehaviour with one of their colleagues, engineers of the MCD today gheraoed the Standing Committee, disrupting a crucial meeting of the House.

Hundreds of engineers indulged in gherao of the Standing Committee over councillor Prem Singh's alleged misbehaviour with Executive Engineer Rajeev Jain during the sealing at Shahdara (South) zone yesterday.

The gherao led to a more than one hour delay in the proceedings of the crucial meeting, convened to announce the revised budget estimates for 2006-2007 and the Budget estimates for 2007-2008.

The engineers shouted slogans against councillor Prem Singh and demanded an apology from him for the misbehaviour with their colleague.

Tha stand-off was resolved after the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Rambabu Sharma intervened in the matter and apologised the engineers about any misbehaviour with Mr Rajiv Jain by the councillor.

Mr Sharma said a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the matter and strict punishment given to whoever was found guilty.

After Mr Sharma's assurance, the engineers relented and the meeting of the Standing Committee resumed.
