Maruti denies rumours of phasing out Wagon R

Jaipur, Dec 8: Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) has denied the rumours of phasing out of its popular model Wagon R with the launching of new Zen Estilo in the same segment.

The company's Chief General Manager (Marketing) Mayank Pareek while talking to newsmen on the launch of its new car Zen Estilo said ''there is no plan to phase out its popular model Wagon R''.

He said new look Wagon R is a hit with sales showing a marked increase from 8,000 per month to 12,000 in recent months.

''We have launched the new look Wagon R only a few months back and there is no question of it being phased out,'' Mr Pareek added.

The gas kit varient of Wagon R constitute about 30 per cent of the sales but due to unavialability of the gas fuel in smaller towns is a major hurdle in expending its sales, he said.

When asked if Maruti plans to expand the gas varient to other models like Alto or Zen Estilo, he said ''it will remain exclusively for the Wagon R''.
